Benefits contribute to the total pay an employee receives for working at Bar-S. We provide valuable benefits, because our motto is “Keeping You and Your Family First”.
Eligibility
All full-time Bar-S employees and their dependants, working at least 25 hours or more each week are eligible for many of our benefits, the first of the month following ninety (90) days of employment
Health Insurance
Bar-S Foods offers a medical plan for eligible employees and their dependants. The network of doctors is offered through a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and the plan typically pays 90% of services when the employee sees a network provider, after the calendar year individual deductible has been met. In addition to health services, our plan also offers prescription coverage in addition to mail order, vision benefits, mental & behavioral health coverage and a generous wellness benefit for exams and immunizations, for infants, children and adults.
Wellness and fitness is promoted by Bar-S and this is reflected in the generous plans offered.
Dental Insurance
Dental insurance coverage is available for employees and their eligible dependents at group rates. Premiums are taken through payroll deduction and are pre-tax.
Basic Life & Accident Insurance
Life insurance is a benefit we hope that the beneficiary never needs to collect. As an employee of Bar-S Foods Co., every active full-time employee is covered by a Basic Life and Basic Accident policy. Each policy covers the employee in the amount of $25,000. This is a 100% employer paid benefit.
Supplemental Life Insurance & Voluntary AD&D
Since every family is unique and has different financial situations and life insurance needs, Bar-S offers the employee the ability to purchase and increase in their life insurance and voluntary accidental death and dismemberment insurance. These rates are secured at a group level by Bar-S to allow for flexible amounts of coverage at minimal cost. In addition, dependent life insurance is available for spouses and dependent children.
Business Travel Accident
This plan provides benefits in the event that a covered employee dies or becomes disabled due to an accident while they are traveling on business for Bar-S.
Disability & Leaves of Absence
Bar-S understands that there may be times that employees may need to be out due to their own serious health condition or to care for a seriously ill family member, or other situations that may arise. In addition to federal mandates such as the FMLA, Bar-S has policies in place for salaried and hourly employees that can help during these times.
Vacations & Holidays
Vacation time is available to both hourly and salaried employees. The company provides pay for special circumstances such as funeral leave and jury duty. Employees receive pay for the observances of some national holidays, as well as one personal holiday after one full year of employment.
401(k) Savings & Profit Sharing Plan
The Bar-S Profit Sharing and Tax Deferred Savings Plan is an important part of personal financial planning for our employees. Upon eligibility in the Plan, which is determined by your date of hire and the number of hours you have worked, you may become a plan participant.
As a participant you are able to share in the benefits of the Plan, including 401(k) retirement contributions and Company Profit Sharing contributions that can accrue tax- deferred until your retirement. Each year, Bar-S contributes a discretionary portion of its profits to the Plan. The employee share of the contribution is based on a weighted formula using each plan participant's annual earnings and their years of service with Bar-S. The employee can also contribute pre-tax pay for retirement. The Company matches your contributions to the 401(k) 100% up to 3% of your pay and 50% on the next 4% and 5%. The employee becomes vested in the company matching contributions immediately. The profit sharing contributions vest based on years of service.
Summary
All of the insurance benefits selected by an employee (with the exception of the 401(k) program) are effective the first day of the month following 90 days of full-time employment. Plan documents, summary plan descriptions and certificate booklets are available to you and provide more detailed information regarding the specific plans offered by Bar-S Foods Co. If there is a conflict between summary sheets and the plan documents, the plan documents, or certificate booklets will prevail.
